Its huge and fantastic in person, and has a wonderfully kitschy fairy princess ballerina girl with horns!! (look close). The shades are stunning, and I can easily say this is my best lamp, ever!! I still can't really believe its mine....<br />

Just pulled into home! I'm not officially moved yet- this is just the first of many moving trips, but its still very exciting!!! Can't wait to make it mine :)<br /><br />Decades a Go-Gohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14722809448894385095noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3975591316674293687.post-4985589138167806992012-05-21T17:51:00.002-07:002012-05-21T17:55:31.411-07:00And they said I'd never pick up chicks....When I came out to my mother years ago, among the drama and craziness was her worries over the fact that she wouldn't get grandkids. While I'm still not so much a kid person (at least having my own- sorry mom), at least now she'll have grandchickens!!<br />
<br />
I just picked up these little cuties yesterday! They're all a week old except for the little guy who's only a couple days :). They're silkies, which are a really odd and utterly fabulous breed of chickens. They're not the best egg layers, but who needs to lay eggs when you look like that? They'll pay for their keep by just struttin' their stuff. A few other bigger girls (well, they will be bigger) are coming in the mail next week. They'll pick up the egg layin' slack for the little silkies (which will be half their size). Anyways, enough talk, here are the girls!!!!<br />

<br /></div>
Here's some pictures of the kitchen from winter break. The before! I've done nothing to the space in these photos. The vintage 1940's linoleum floor was unfortunately too far gone to be saved. And actually, while currently the kitchen, this is actually going to become the office and the kitchen will be moved to a bigger more light filled room in the house. This room is adorable, but so small for a kitchen! Only 9 ft wide! The other room has south facing windows for morning sun, and is much bigger, and at the heart of the house (not a tucked away little corner like it is now). The sink is nice, but will be replaced with a 1930's mint green farmhouse sink. The stove I have to think about...its PINK, which I LOVE, but I have to see if it goes with the kitchen colors in the end. I have another 1950's stove competing for the spot, that is white but super cartoony with great sentimental value..<br />
<br />
What are your thoughts on the wallpaper? I'm not going to be keeping all of it, but I was thinking of keeping one wall, maybe as a kitschy accent. I believe its from the 1940's...<br />

I think I know deep down this will only last another week or so before the guilt sets in. After all, I have MANY more things that truly need the money. But in true Nick-style, I've justified spending a little more than I normally would to get something I don't really "need", but really want! <br />
<br />
And here they are....!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4amxAf7hMHAr6s6OTci8mtKsWIAS9U-bDXRt7wRGiddmojgBpWGsoBuZRLvePcMOu2aN0KktXBCmEKmGtOKnMcjG5q61rZwWmRJfeZFFXFCfW_0hS3RtdDEH36FlSzsDA3n1XjaywbDJS/s1600/knobs1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4amxAf7hMHAr6s6OTci8mtKsWIAS9U-bDXRt7wRGiddmojgBpWGsoBuZRLvePcMOu2aN0KktXBCmEKmGtOKnMcjG5q61rZwWmRJfeZFFXFCfW_0hS3RtdDEH36FlSzsDA3n1XjaywbDJS/s320/knobs1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I don't really have a good picture of the front door, but its actually very nice, although hidden behind an awful modern screen door that HAS ta go! You can sort of see it in the pic below.. The hardware was replaced with really cheap home depot brass stuff, that totally kills the look of the door! Since its gonna be something I use every day, I decided to splurge and get more appropriate "house jewelry"! I am a detail freak, so I also will be getting vintage hinges to replace the modern ones, and the wonderful woman who sold me the set is provided vintage screws that match the patina of each side.<br />
*note that you should use a historically correct slotted screw, NOT a modern phillips head screw on an antique doorplate, and always hand screw after pre-drilling).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtwLAFq8H_jujxplNmpBTnbiiK-ka0IxDJpRzDMPgfNCxfNryMzqjwTfhkUnq2irisjVH6Fx856M-t6nzvd3B5Lj8JNB-e6Ix95sx5BgxBYgr4iNKcGK2MIj41gR_uq7IVlIBl55Wfa0fW/s1600/frontdoor.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtwLAFq8H_jujxplNmpBTnbiiK-ka0IxDJpRzDMPgfNCxfNryMzqjwTfhkUnq2irisjVH6Fx856M-t6nzvd3B5Lj8JNB-e6Ix95sx5BgxBYgr4iNKcGK2MIj41gR_uq7IVlIBl55Wfa0fW/s320/frontdoor.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Speaking of patina, that's one of the things that makes this set so special. Because one side has been exposed to the elements for 100 years, they've aged very differently, and I love it! I also love that the interior will be a glass knob, with very different almost black exterior hardware.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9NtWZh4tPaN0UYtSGM1BjSzvH7WVnz8iNNEHfoawjiJPR_bbYIbAz3kEUafLm0npm3Ky2_KLyLG14rv91ipWBrYSJ58eV0_islFhwFuL7DBIP3dMWf7hoYMyVwrlEIXvlmDxu1tGwVRn6/s1600/knobs2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9NtWZh4tPaN0UYtSGM1BjSzvH7WVnz8iNNEHfoawjiJPR_bbYIbAz3kEUafLm0npm3Ky2_KLyLG14rv91ipWBrYSJ58eV0_islFhwFuL7DBIP3dMWf7hoYMyVwrlEIXvlmDxu1tGwVRn6/s320/knobs2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This isn't the best picture of the knobs, but interestingly the lavender knob (appears darker here) became that way due to sun exposure- it started clear. That dates it between 1890 - 1914. The other knob was manufactured by Sargent & Co. around 1905. It's the pattern "bullis" from their Greek school of architecture patterns. The door plates (pattern "quincy") were manufactured around 1905 by the Reading Hardware Co. <em> (p.s.- credit goes to Vicky at Historic Home Hardware for assembling this phenomenal set and knowing the history!)</em><br />

Also, just to note, this isn't technically "era correct" to my house which is an 1865 Greek Revival, but my motto is if the original is long gone, then I'll go with something old that I like!<br />
<br />
I'll keep you guys posted as the door project goes on...Its not quite as simple as it seems, since I have to fill in the larger whole left from the home depot hardware, get proper hinges, and make repairs to the door such as somehow removing a huge sheet of plywood that was bizarrely glued onto the back of the door (to better insulate it I presume?). <br />
<br />
So like everything in my life, its not simple, but thats what makes it fun!<br />
<br />
...I think.Decades a Go-Gohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14722809448894385095noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3975591316674293687.post-9543616475025934932012-05-04T15:20:00.000-07:002012-05-04T15:20:00.968-07:00Incredible Vintage Iron Chairs!I didn't think I could top myself with the recent sink, but these iron chairs are incredible!! I feel like I'm on a roll now that school is ending! Now I haven't actually bought them yet, but I've talked the seller down to a price I can afford, and am getting ready to send a deposit! (I can't pick them up for a week or 2). The seller doesn't know exactly how old they are, but he believes they may be from the 70's. I'll have to try and judge the age when I see them in person...all I know is if they're half as good as they look in the pics, I think I'll be beyond thrilled.... I'm actually thinking I might end up using them as the breakfast area chairs in the kitchen... I can't wait to start designing around them in the space! I'll have to find a table thats worthy of them... It'll actually be an interesting challenge....normally chairs play somewhat the part of backup dancers in design, but lets face it, these girls are divas. To be honest, I can't possibly imagine how they can be comfortable, but in the end, I think of a quote from one of my favorite movies, "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything"...<br />
<br />
"Well pumpkins, it looks like it comes down to that age old decison.....Style..or Substance? <br />

This is easily one of my favorite finds... I just brought her home, and I'm now the proud owner of a gorgeous original mint green farmhouse sink! I didn't want to post anything until everything went through, but it did!<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2bG2kQa6vB-NbH8LPTQeEWPNZICNm8XPmApS5ezJgnwM9dyfuGMU8Q3c4ESWNqBCsZFwjYyqyYg15xTAQnR53SAOQeA3nutk3C4O6JHpirUaV9FmiWMM_o8o0f1TmCivgkvU8WujrQNHJ/s1600/sink1.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 400px; height: 300px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5733934405587486546" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2bG2kQa6vB-NbH8LPTQeEWPNZICNm8XPmApS5ezJgnwM9dyfuGMU8Q3c4ESWNqBCsZFwjYyqyYg15xTAQnR53SAOQeA3nutk3C4O6JHpirUaV9FmiWMM_o8o0f1TmCivgkvU8WujrQNHJ/s400/sink1.JPG" /></a><br /><br />When I saw the photo of the sink and the description on craigslist, I knew instantly it was what I was looking for. I've been looking for an old farmhouse sink like this, and while I always dreamed of a colored one, there's so hard to find (and so expensive!), I figured I had no chance... Needless to say, I acted quickly.<br /><br />I didn't have much hope at first...I had emailed the seller, and when she didn't get back to me the second time I assumed it was sold... For the heck of it, I emailed once more (pesky craigslister that I am) and she actually got back to me, saying she missed my previous emails! Long story short, I drove 2 1/2 hours up near Philly to pick the sink up and now here I am! I ended up getting her for $300, which is a lot for me, but pretty cheap when you look at what similar sinks go for!<br /><br />And this is one of those great craigslist stories where its even better in person... The color was off in the pics on the ad, but when I got there my dreams were confirmed -it was that sick sweet soft mint green in pristine condition! Plus, it came with a faucet that wasn't mentioned in the ad! The faucet's a repro, but still good.<br /><br />So, anyways, here she is in all her glory! She actually fits perfectly in the corner I need a sink in(speaking of which- my kitchen plans have changed since my last kitchen post- I'll have to update with a new post sometime)<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9RqQi1BRHIEZfxpasTQuCeB6Znp_gDaxuJ1ZbE_GIR7TdfxoNsfJPhxUy2o8PCp6fXL0s3BlPPt99jT4NR4xlHSW5VWdVtfnPxMJTswGv_FIcCRFXu5tbp2-jaNZQztFiykH3hdelod1e/s1600/sink2.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 400px; height: 300px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5733934398707223058" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9RqQi1BRHIEZfxpasTQuCeB6Znp_gDaxuJ1ZbE_GIR7TdfxoNsfJPhxUy2o8PCp6fXL0s3BlPPt99jT4NR4xlHSW5VWdVtfnPxMJTswGv_FIcCRFXu5tbp2-jaNZQztFiykH3hdelod1e/s400/sink2.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs3js62PVLYN61z57bNc_15gVdkITGyZd2lJf4ukpEot_ze9TGDDmLtyEgtW472m87DBFhAnyaKJ-1Yi97g18O1tPWDncbibeIRTEmYIQJ0_PB14j-PX326mX0WrFnUCzE2kmx_H5mif86/s1600/sink3.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 400px; height: 300px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5733934393087072754" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs3js62PVLYN61z57bNc_15gVdkITGyZd2lJf4ukpEot_ze9TGDDmLtyEgtW472m87DBFhAnyaKJ-1Yi97g18O1tPWDncbibeIRTEmYIQJ0_PB14j-PX326mX0WrFnUCzE2kmx_H5mif86/s400/sink3.JPG" /></a></div><div> </div><div align="center"><br /><br />Original craigslist photo:<br /><br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheaZKShS6xIwv1jvQqEFnBxbhG-dk0ucGB1sUuy52r40LLN2hryq7NKfeiz-yNbhn2nY3Zo32ZPucDHWJaoD3nm0H2e2dd-m-kqaoxPcLz5B8_ub6shw-N-CLHu_3zP9r0cf6Xr6ZovUsQ/s1600/sink4.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 400px; height: 300px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5733934419551830386" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheaZKShS6xIwv1jvQqEFnBxbhG-dk0ucGB1sUuy52r40LLN2hryq7NKfeiz-yNbhn2nY3Zo32ZPucDHWJaoD3nm0H2e2dd-m-kqaoxPcLz5B8_ub6shw-N-CLHu_3zP9r0cf6Xr6ZovUsQ/s400/sink4.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br />Sneak Peak of other kitchen stuff: Mint green fridge to left, upper cabinets above! It took forever, especially with the miniature hinges (which were intended for doll house doors ha!). The point was that you would open up each door and get a different framed view of the object. (the object was about fragments). Each view would also be filtered or blocked in one of 3 ways. Sometimes you would get a literal brick wall, other times just parts of the brick wall that you could see through, and then in just the netting behind the bricks. (In the middle panel it was a clear tunnel to the center of the artifact, which was the most important part). Anyways, here's how it turned out!<br /></span><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOer5CcDfCXxelad-aIt4xgtUdmiqiJ3VpYGdIeByjFsZf2QX_jzsLcs-LO2Ti8OoPMq8uZpdbBWH5qQFHUeEVP8WRSzM2R4oTBKmSnixA3onN5oCOjZ8_SWhvHyA3ysg5r75SJ8ns7U56/s1600/rel2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 400px; height: 264px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713596414850115298" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOer5CcDfCXxelad-aIt4xgtUdmiqiJ3VpYGdIeByjFsZf2QX_jzsLcs-LO2Ti8OoPMq8uZpdbBWH5qQFHUeEVP8WRSzM2R4oTBKmSnixA3onN5oCOjZ8_SWhvHyA3ysg5r75SJ8ns7U56/s400/rel2.jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiySdNan7BgrVzZuRd2Ww7fd4acnySOGMyIr2Q5NsUw-vCpMJ72i0YW8iLvZKwEmtQuMOpkhm34ZF1SRanNjiZ8uBpePJV89gb6S_AbzorjYVBmAU4FNXl33_6Y8hIhXGrthfVORtslOQCj/s1600/rel1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 400px; height: 266px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5713596409076661170" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiySdNan7BgrVzZuRd2Ww7fd4acnySOGMyIr2Q5NsUw-vCpMJ72i0YW8iLvZKwEmtQuMOpkhm34ZF1SRanNjiZ8uBpePJV89gb6S_AbzorjYVBmAU4FNXl33_6Y8hIhXGrthfVORtslOQCj/s400/rel1.jpg" /></a></div><br /><em></em>Decades a Go-Gohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14722809448894385095noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3975591316674293687.post-91413308249722109192012-02-11T22:04:00.000-08:002012-02-13T09:30:44.845-08:00Part 2 of Studio ProjectFor the second part of our project on transformations, we were told we had to make some sort of artifact that related to our video. It had to be small enough to fit in the palm of our hand, but other than that it was open for interpretation. The idea was to be abstract with the ideas from your video, so for mine, after talking with my critic, I wanted my object to reflect the idea of revealing mechanism behind a facade, rather than reflect the literal man/woman change in the video. Further, I wanted to explore the idea of revealing mechanism, to the point where I wanted an object that would reveal the mistaken or percieved mechanism behind the surface. Sort of like when you're a little kid, and you don't know how something really complicated like a car or radio work, so you invent some sort of way in your mind. <br /><br />For me, the object was a small vintage transistor radio that had seen better days. It seemed obvious to me, that had I not known the guts behind what makes a radio work, that they would be operated by a family of miniature instrument-playing marshmellows.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdf_5MusMhV2gBE3wPKJoleqMOfSkQIDaObhnqdpgpPnQ1XlkKD5x5qNzDEj_as7Ybpc1f2ehx-UHsKzH4h0lr1uBfyLHjyn3uP4Fn6uNXfPUTTVZMLVzdj3YaD89tSwUIVP5HVe27fofO/s1600/radio2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 300px; height: 400px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708127750296383122" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdf_5MusMhV2gBE3wPKJoleqMOfSkQIDaObhnqdpgpPnQ1XlkKD5x5qNzDEj_as7Ybpc1f2ehx-UHsKzH4h0lr1uBfyLHjyn3uP4Fn6uNXfPUTTVZMLVzdj3YaD89tSwUIVP5HVe27fofO/s400/radio2.jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtDE6au2TL3YLuoIq4ep9PlU2n1MjFNT96WVgfV1qIZbxLvMNqbG9u6LrxmmVu_tjrrsuoQosMwf30X2lIKu-rDAsvs2G_Qo4syMwjbGeQmbzMZ3fh_ren3h2n2LAo0EemYX6_fn_rUY-1/s1600/radio1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 300px; height: 400px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708127745310342674" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtDE6au2TL3YLuoIq4ep9PlU2n1MjFNT96WVgfV1qIZbxLvMNqbG9u6LrxmmVu_tjrrsuoQosMwf30X2lIKu-rDAsvs2G_Qo4syMwjbGeQmbzMZ3fh_ren3h2n2LAo0EemYX6_fn_rUY-1/s400/radio1.jpg" /></a></div>Decades a Go-Gohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14722809448894385095noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3975591316674293687.post-55926584030259098512012-02-11T21:49:00.001-08:002012-02-11T22:21:37.217-08:00Me in Drag! for...architecture?<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilzwlQv80uf8HhAi6CrqKsc4oI7mA06hSp_3PXu1sAhpPHwXjLVbVasqKCPY9_tD8A6KH32O7PTSGkHV2D_2ExwBPNOoyy3V4j5xBf6ra3ZrzBDb2USdLGBCNGaP9YnroAcsUzN19j1gnG/s1600/me8.jpeg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 299px; height: 400px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708124823717247794" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilzwlQv80uf8HhAi6CrqKsc4oI7mA06hSp_3PXu1sAhpPHwXjLVbVasqKCPY9_tD8A6KH32O7PTSGkHV2D_2ExwBPNOoyy3V4j5xBf6ra3ZrzBDb2USdLGBCNGaP9YnroAcsUzN19j1gnG/s400/me8.jpeg" /></a><br /><br />Well, one of the more fun projects this semester in studio was a film project where we had to document some form of transformation...It could be anything really, totally up to our interpretation... the idea is that the built environment is constantly in a state of transformation, and as architects how we deal with that current or potential transformation is important... This was only part one of the project, so we'll see where it goes...<br /><br />Anyways, I decided to go man to woman! Or rather....Woman to man... I liked the idea of revealing the true mechanism behind the facade, and paralleling my transformation to that of my vintage kitty clock (the facade of the clock versus the reality of what makes it tick). I wasn't going for super cheerful, the sound of the clock is intended to be a little off-putting since it becomes the sound track.. I'll try to attach the video below, but for now here are a few photos of how I turned out!<br /><br /> P.S. the dress is real 60's vintage- I LOVE it...the shawl I had to improvise- its a piece of fur from Walmart haha...worked good enough from a distance though...<br /><br /><iframe height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qnZ_r-6MK1M" frameborder="0" width="480" allowfullscreen=""></iframe><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigFE7a20KQF9TpkPy2iNlLOH-YVP2XRA-btcCUfevWu0cwF9-1bnz0L_1wEg9617w20wxBtLy5IeEEKRkvZJWQhL5-k6YwSfPBXi5dpUviFRepNyi67Dr3RkZ_WhPmATXAeFXyc1hoN_sp/s1600/me9.jpeg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 299px; height: 400px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708124778335066850" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigFE7a20KQF9TpkPy2iNlLOH-YVP2XRA-btcCUfevWu0cwF9-1bnz0L_1wEg9617w20wxBtLy5IeEEKRkvZJWQhL5-k6YwSfPBXi5dpUviFRepNyi67Dr3RkZ_WhPmATXAeFXyc1hoN_sp/s400/me9.jpeg" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwCWKR5yUIYI_jBVusBRPz0zF-CTPtgzv3fV0mcCSnu-Rwv9nWotFoFxjNhXLuYY5-7aPCAV4Zrf0Fj0I_h_U3CjJe32eUMFjyr_hzR1X2QB3tqcCWWQAM1Ph5c9rpx2Zr_a7cTC111rp-/s1600/me11.jpeg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 299px; height: 400px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708124773202203362" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwCWKR5yUIYI_jBVusBRPz0zF-CTPtgzv3fV0mcCSnu-Rwv9nWotFoFxjNhXLuYY5-7aPCAV4Zrf0Fj0I_h_U3CjJe32eUMFjyr_hzR1X2QB3tqcCWWQAM1Ph5c9rpx2Zr_a7cTC111rp-/s400/me11.jpeg" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8fAt3qOLwwim_DE3Ia2i1TlZP0Yf4sOtKniUb6h7lWCa7Baow-XYwBYpJCVPZaSf6tzdK5SlmEdCC2gzvcnVxk_W5KNSgeO_EzJcKo1X5QorEztGFLgcgzaFFwXl8XAAu5cFR1q0FbOIh/s1600/me12.jpeg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 299px; height: 400px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708124747906344530" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8fAt3qOLwwim_DE3Ia2i1TlZP0Yf4sOtKniUb6h7lWCa7Baow-XYwBYpJCVPZaSf6tzdK5SlmEdCC2gzvcnVxk_W5KNSgeO_EzJcKo1X5QorEztGFLgcgzaFFwXl8XAAu5cFR1q0FbOIh/s400/me12.jpeg" /></a><br /><div></div></div></div></div>Decades a Go-Gohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14722809448894385095noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3975591316674293687.post-18581093242478477812012-02-11T20:31:00.000-08:002012-02-11T21:09:00.238-08:00Back in StudioAnd now for the home stretch... the last semester of Architorture! Alas, I'll be released from Architraz!<br /><br /> (ok, enough with the architecture puns...)<br /><br />But seriously, I can't believe it! This is beyond huge for me...And yes, I know I still have to somehow get through this semester...but once I do....woooo here comes lifeee! I know its not gonna be all lollipops and rainbows and fluffy things, but I'm so ready for this...SO ready... School is officially 100% over May 20th (graduation), and after that I'm going to begin the quick transition into moving to Upstate NY. I'll be graduating with a bachelor of science in Architecture and hopefully I'll fenangle something out of all the preservation classes I've taken). A LOT has to be done, and its not gonna be quick or simple, but I've been looking forward to this moment for a long time... I have a home waiting for me up there that needs all the love I can put into it...<br /><br />Speaking of which, the parsonage is coming along! I have to find my photos, but over break I scraped the peeling beadboard ceilings, took up layers and layers of linoleum in the kitchen, and have begun scraping wallpaper. I discovered gorgeous 1920's wood flooring in the kitchen, with also-gorgeous painted 1860's wide plank flooring beneath... (for some reason, they only added the 1920's wood in the kitchen, which makes me a little worried as to why they did that (fire? damage?). Scraping the wallpaper was also really addictive, and I want to get a sample of every wallpaper layer I go through to keep in a book on the parsonage :)... I had planned to get more done, but a couple things came up over break that ended up changing the dynamic of the trip...<br /><br />On a final note, with the beginning of studio (its hard to believe we're almost a month in), I was so thrilled this was the last semester I went on a decorating binge... (partly because I got an awesome corner window seat this semester!). Compared to everyone else, I may have gone a little crazy, but it fits me just fine...had to bring a little "home" to my daily workspace :)...(p.s. sorry for the crappy cell phone pics!)<br /><br />Can you guess which desk is me? (And I still haven't started on most of my desk yet!)<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBSK4LjCRMQ2z2YgOjReRDIilZgiGhyphenhyphen4b6G9VBFmr6q1Jyj2sQk9zqWioi3t6swr0d674bSCmtAR-8DO7aE9hDefFM34tXK4fwfvrcgcQU8mEAZZFj9ALp6_68RUBqzSCZfSpR_viYh9n0/s1600/studio1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 400px; height: 300px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708110335544831410" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBSK4LjCRMQ2z2YgOjReRDIilZgiGhyphenhyphen4b6G9VBFmr6q1Jyj2sQk9zqWioi3t6swr0d674bSCmtAR-8DO7aE9hDefFM34tXK4fwfvrcgcQU8mEAZZFj9ALp6_68RUBqzSCZfSpR_viYh9n0/s400/studio1.jpg" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht9VYN6gC8MCQmWOniYhllt2hIsmNFHofDZdkjQzDQv6WkKZRYTprkXXs-DBr0nEHQVv4MLueOIOnaskDKiJknk-zFQFRcYI30i7DHS6NAOqYiIS7z1kfk85G6zToxi10E4TnE5QR1-K1B/s1600/studio2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 300px; height: 400px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708110320965164706" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht9VYN6gC8MCQmWOniYhllt2hIsmNFHofDZdkjQzDQv6WkKZRYTprkXXs-DBr0nEHQVv4MLueOIOnaskDKiJknk-zFQFRcYI30i7DHS6NAOqYiIS7z1kfk85G6zToxi10E4TnE5QR1-K1B/s400/studio2.jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxRaw9SVJqK88LmsXsVc5-S8PKEl9OhREJkeps-9zUb5bXY7QBk1dP4mhc90KZw5PWHlSKqndMjkpWk3DgNHht8AyE7wA-qapPSXC3MoIg0_8jj8IZO7dwyvrKR_0k6d29EuL3Nglqo92d/s1600/studio3.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 300px; height: 400px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708110314660954002" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxRaw9SVJqK88LmsXsVc5-S8PKEl9OhREJkeps-9zUb5bXY7QBk1dP4mhc90KZw5PWHlSKqndMjkpWk3DgNHht8AyE7wA-qapPSXC3MoIg0_8jj8IZO7dwyvrKR_0k6d29EuL3Nglqo92d/s400/studio3.jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGl_wgojw0aG-s7PvAyiA4h51LVdDqvOsR7SfGR4mVMAXrX26snHMXCsNGGBwEm1wkanmXg2P-tzGzZvkr9np_SRa-WUNWR7m5-e0CmVs65OrTM53rqBs2ZIygwBul8smlvyYNA5stQeY2/s1600/studio4.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 400px; height: 300px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708110307956704642" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGl_wgojw0aG-s7PvAyiA4h51LVdDqvOsR7SfGR4mVMAXrX26snHMXCsNGGBwEm1wkanmXg2P-tzGzZvkr9np_SRa-WUNWR7m5-e0CmVs65OrTM53rqBs2ZIygwBul8smlvyYNA5stQeY2/s400/studio4.jpg" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpAy0FoWVqOfxndPW0BTKCaDpTMAYIsSdL6xbYBRUZMBQZWQd1jyX4aKUFH6TFnZR1vjxY45qx-D5YkGAvvPjxFrRE5-ngwuOdyK4tNRnIl10HAD2psc7csMVTsYQGUJdoyyt2NzHCYXY5/s1600/studio5.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 300px; height: 400px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5708110301676885794" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpAy0FoWVqOfxndPW0BTKCaDpTMAYIsSdL6xbYBRUZMBQZWQd1jyX4aKUFH6TFnZR1vjxY45qx-D5YkGAvvPjxFrRE5-ngwuOdyK4tNRnIl10HAD2psc7csMVTsYQGUJdoyyt2NzHCYXY5/s400/studio5.jpg" /></a><br /><div></div></div></div></div>Decades a Go-Gohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14722809448894385095noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3975591316674293687.post-86799701968184529602011-12-18T08:16:00.000-08:002011-12-18T09:27:58.198-08:00Kitchen Plans<div><font face="arial">I'm done with fall semester!!!!!!!!!!<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />....Well, I should be! But instead, I still have 20 pages of papers to write by tuesday. I haven't quite escaped from Architraz yet... Funnn.... Specifically, while dreaming about vintage kitchens! I'm actually getting ready to leave for Upstate NY (after I get these papers done), where I'll be working on the bunny house over winter break. Specifically, I'll be working on the kitchen! I don't know how much progress I can make in the time I have (I also have other stuff to do), but I can at least get started! I got to dig out some of the kitchen stuff that's gonna be comin' with me...stuff I've had for a while now that I've been dying to see set up! Bein' the design fanatic I am, I've spent a lot of time working out different possible kitchen plans with the general floor plan of the house... Its been an interesting design challenge since all the pieces of this kitchen puzzle are currently mismatched salvage... I think it can all come together though....<br /><br />Anyways, here are the main pieces I'm workin' with.... There'll surely be others, but these will probably be the main players.<br /><br /><br />Kitchen cabinet set: This is from when I purchased them; its actually only the cabinets that have the sliding glass panels- not the two lower right bottoms. I lovve the glass, and I think they'll be incredible once finished... I like the idea of setting the rounded counter out at an angle, cause I like angles, but also because it just works well (IMO). It allows a small eat-in area with some stools, and also gives the kitchen more counter space. If it were a true "L" it would cut into the kitchen space to much, and if there was no jut-out you'd have very little counter space, with no stool area. The counter I already have; its an original light turquoise formica countertop with a great boomerang pattern, in excellent condition. I have the fridge against the far wall, a sink space next to it a bit lower than the bar counter, and the stove on the opposite wall to complete the work triangle.</font></div><div><font face="arial"><br /> </font></div><font face="arial"></font><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1_R_JSBsy0_LeFD_Y6Oh1MTQ5AeCKtGF1fAYE5KtDeTzVXPM0ZNGdBdNr6il6cuWjDair5sHjyEPzwSEWMZxEyabYlPsSHyjQg0rfIM5SAP1noW4jfpLUzF74vKAPHCme63SX7JI3sZPR/s1600/persp1.JPG"><font face="arial"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 400px; height: 300px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5687510978200185906" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1_R_JSBsy0_LeFD_Y6Oh1MTQ5AeCKtGF1fAYE5KtDeTzVXPM0ZNGdBdNr6il6cuWjDair5sHjyEPzwSEWMZxEyabYlPsSHyjQg0rfIM5SAP1noW4jfpLUzF74vKAPHCme63SX7JI3sZPR/s400/persp1.JPG" /></font></a><font face="arial">Just another perspective (I've spent most of my time designing this side of the kitchen). So of course I have to share my pics and excitement! I'm actually going to be renting a house from a best-friend of mine in central Upstate NY. (in a small village called Starkville). Its about an hour west of Albany.. She's an artist who recently bought an abandoned church to fix up into her home and studio. Being in the middle of Upstate NY, she got the property for $17,000! Not only is the church incredible, but it came with an "extra"- the original parsonage! Can you imagine getting an extra house with your house? Since she doesn't need an extra house, we've worked out a deal where I'm gonna rent (maybe rent-to-own) the parsonage, likely in exchange for repairs or work done (any work I do will count towards rent). I'm actually already very involved in the local community as I go up there constantly throughout the year, and love it! Very slow pace of life (which I love), yes very economically depressed, but it feels right.. Lots of country, little towns, old buildings and old things.. There's a local cafe we go to on the weekends and know everyone by name, people wave as you drive by, neighbors help out....its so not like that where I grew up in modern suburban maryland..<br /><br />Anyways, here's the house! It's a little 1865 Greek Revival farmhouse! Thankfully still has its original windows and wood siding, and so many cute details! (porch details added circa 1890)<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhsWliDfbAdqmfL_sfHvZ7iSLFiwY0TT08n84IP59aEg9J1_81WsFWwGXsLNhclXJVdLXFMr0iiAMtqxxdalzwHKuBse_pQgOgDqVaw39CEcKDZkJMwS_KnlCL_syaqvCaJCfpkTG0-2a9/s1600/bunny8.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5673548063907538130" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhsWliDfbAdqmfL_sfHvZ7iSLFiwY0TT08n84IP59aEg9J1_81WsFWwGXsLNhclXJVdLXFMr0iiAMtqxxdalzwHKuBse_pQgOgDqVaw39CEcKDZkJMwS_KnlCL_syaqvCaJCfpkTG0-2a9/s400/bunny8.JPG" /></a><br /><br />Even though its much older than most of the furniture I'm into, I kind of like the contrast between the more 1940's-60's stuff against the olderness of the house... And it already fits in a lot of ways.. don't those look like 50's starbursts carved out in the gingerbread trim below? Meant to be ha! And yes, this pic also shows how much work she's gonna need....all I can say is water has not been this home's friend!<br /><br /><br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPIPqb2PD-Mel4JvB88T8lQFL5tRtdCpjjKou9I7SLcYTWvf01-Ymrz0CQ4eYOpq9bR4PZZCrhBO6Mh8Rmxc5KojFkcrP8ljCZpzmPM7sgVs8hdINAbQ9cQekmfJbW_KXoaE-6jDdWTWqJ/s1600/bunny9.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5673547942248130706" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPIPqb2PD-Mel4JvB88T8lQFL5tRtdCpjjKou9I7SLcYTWvf01-Ymrz0CQ4eYOpq9bR4PZZCrhBO6Mh8Rmxc5KojFkcrP8ljCZpzmPM7sgVs8hdINAbQ9cQekmfJbW_KXoaE-6jDdWTWqJ/s400/bunny9.JPG" /></a></div><br /><div></div><br /><div>I love the front door (but gotta get rid of that modern screen door!)</div><br /><div><br /></div><br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj04uB68ny1JJIioZpgh3FvLB4sC1HLnUNUGqwmj1PP3kKDgkXUm05VVdlGJTkZeBJqmYhqelr-uZFm5UM69E3v2Jnr0sy_MijdGVR8hlHpnVsKAm5kjtcMJnwmk6TLleeN3VrHVnyDZMI_/s1600/bunny1.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5673547935290000418" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj04uB68ny1JJIioZpgh3FvLB4sC1HLnUNUGqwmj1PP3kKDgkXUm05VVdlGJTkZeBJqmYhqelr-uZFm5UM69E3v2Jnr0sy_MijdGVR8hlHpnVsKAm5kjtcMJnwmk6TLleeN3VrHVnyDZMI_/s400/bunny1.JPG" /></a></div><br /><div></div><br /><div>And the back! I'm gonna start work this winter to try to make her livable for when I move in after school.. There's not tooo many original details left inside (besides original doors with iron latches!) but that just means I can make it my own and vintage it up to my heart's content! </div><br /><div></div><br /><div>Wish me luck! Whether or not this place is really haunted, it sure looks the part! Built in 1876, the home was built for inventor Webster Wagner, who invented the sleeping and parlor cars for the railroad, in addition to a ground-breaking ventilation system. Basically, he was largely responsible for improving the comfort of railroad travel. Is it somewhat ironic that after he built this home, he died in the same car he invented, in a fiery train crash in 1882.</div><div><br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX37gyNMy0xeBH-jiwvD-dcaia2k1vIQcLhVZrstiZIL1LjeploNmlbAQ2JSb5EouQqQxNo6jQRo1sDQgUKNO8abL7M2-IHP6jzkhVmQCqkp4u1V6gQzeESs9m21RDRA7JFDaGY5M64ymG/s1600/wagner6+%25281%2529.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 293px; height: 400px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5669621334513716642" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX37gyNMy0xeBH-jiwvD-dcaia2k1vIQcLhVZrstiZIL1LjeploNmlbAQ2JSb5EouQqQxNo6jQRo1sDQgUKNO8abL7M2-IHP6jzkhVmQCqkp4u1V6gQzeESs9m21RDRA7JFDaGY5M64ymG/s400/wagner6+%25281%2529.jpg" /></a></div><div> </div><div>Today, the mansion is in a terrible state of decay, but surprisingly is not abandoned. It is actually currently lived in, though the owner is somewhat of a recluse. A few years ago, half of the porch collapsed, followed by a portion of the third and second floors collapsing over the parlors due to water infiltration. The mansion is still standing, but on its final legs. It wasn't really for sale by itself, it just came with an older floor lamp that it really didn't go with anyways. But I was struck. For me, the star was this shade. I snatched it up for $5 and carefully carried it back to my goodies pile.</span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">Now some people have thought (and likely will think) I'm crazy. You should have seen some of the looks I got carrying this thing back! But I don't care- I just love it to pieces. And JUST the way it is. That's what makes it so good! It started out as a fringed lampshade (1920's?) but has practically become this (IMHO) work of art! I mean its just like this wierd sculptural faded floofal from another time....like shredded or faded elegance... That pink floofal in the middle is fantastic and I love the edges of fringe that remain along the sides. It really has this abandoned building kinda feel to it...</span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">While I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with it, I gotta do something good...I'm open to suggestions! I don't want it to be a lamp again (besides, it would burst into flames) so I'm thinking of just hanging it somewhere...maybe over a table over something? </span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm6w3yRIQB-nMPkP6EsIP7CKbuCSRoV66-Z03bz8Kxbx2ysO2E72z04WPerhZzNAbDMiUa_Rkdj6sWRvrpdO0F3usfCgsq5h-AGz9lHZoD5_OBm1P3QPKzXetsfIHDuVg0VNMCZIoRjkfH/s1600/lamp2.JPG"><span style="font-family:arial;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5667082255130295250" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm6w3yRIQB-nMPkP6EsIP7CKbuCSRoV66-Z03bz8Kxbx2ysO2E72z04WPerhZzNAbDMiUa_Rkdj6sWRvrpdO0F3usfCgsq5h-AGz9lHZoD5_OBm1P3QPKzXetsfIHDuVg0VNMCZIoRjkfH/s400/lamp2.JPG" /></span></a><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;"></span><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">P.S. here's a sneak peak of a 50's pink dinette I got at the same flea market! With that being said, I know officially have too many dinettes and need to sell off the excess children! If anyone's looking for a 50's dinette in the Maryland-ish area, let me know! Sorry I've been gone for forever! This past year has just been...well... packed isn't a strong enough word! In addition to surviving being an architecture student, I've just had a ton of other stuff going on as well.. This summer I helped a friend do a couple art shows and also volunteered to help an architecture firm do an exterior conditions report on a really cool house I have to post about some time... I also found the house that I'm going to be renting after school! I have to do a post coming up- I'm so excited! Its a little 1860's former parsonage in a village in Upstate NY. It needs a ton of work, but has a lot of potential! I'll be renting from my best friend up there, who lives in the old gothic church next door!</font></div><div><font face="arial"></font> </div><div><font face="arial"> And then this semester is going on.. This is my first break, after our big first-half-of-the-semester project. To give you an idea of what studio is like during the final days of a project (the charette), I was working literally nonstop for a week, all day and night at the architecture building, and the last 3 days I slept 2 hours. Not a very pleasant experience! Besides the fact that I don't remember what i said during my presentation, I actually had a very good review, so I was happy. Here's a picture of me from last semester with my charette hat on, and a model from a previous project..</font></div><div><font face="arial"></font> </div><div><font face="arial"></font> </div><div><font face="arial"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 363px; height: 400px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5666738717703587282" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge_8lHrhrt8t_oCBvpCKnjGRKjrwKoaUJ7RfO_6ewgtmkAk0xrfneSJ7wRDMJnIk8rYOTo2f7TEGPCTIElYW6Y7ighzctv5xmANga0tOlJgNo-tMjZZ3wT5Mgg-1h0zDPTfrbSY4qtVgAV/s400/mebunny1.jpg" /><br /><br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdl6aPZfAhsR1X-mi0u9Hm4l1Bu03Kb8QESRg5cnM_g4_IcVAyBpLZ_we6mM_QRJfsbj3KGjPH9wrv4FRcbdFr42ezcBjQgnywZd7oOQQ0QOSavxHRrOjAmdi2QE5fpv3K0P3ec-x8mg0Y/s1600/mebunny2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 400px; height: 300px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5666738710698256306" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdl6aPZfAhsR1X-mi0u9Hm4l1Bu03Kb8QESRg5cnM_g4_IcVAyBpLZ_we6mM_QRJfsbj3KGjPH9wrv4FRcbdFr42ezcBjQgnywZd7oOQQ0QOSavxHRrOjAmdi2QE5fpv3K0P3ec-x8mg0Y/s400/mebunny2.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggfaVRPI8RThlmWq7oO_z7F30u_WWTQf3SQ7GwAac8bSqfn39gBAWMkGqHn8gj7f7l-5Jhl7QDkSaIlKwRidARt9NwU68u-cG7vdbpUdgBP1G2pPZW-yUw50B8Xf2D-D44f0-n5Kge5QFi/s1600/mebunny3.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 300px; height: 400px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5666738706680809250" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggfaVRPI8RThlmWq7oO_z7F30u_WWTQf3SQ7GwAac8bSqfn39gBAWMkGqHn8gj7f7l-5Jhl7QDkSaIlKwRidARt9NwU68u-cG7vdbpUdgBP1G2pPZW-yUw50B8Xf2D-D44f0-n5Kge5QFi/s400/mebunny3.jpg" /></a><br /></div><div><font face="arial"></font> </div><div><font face="arial">But anyways, during the charette I actually picked up some vintage yum-yums on the way to get art supplies! I was on the highway when my vinta-vision kicked in and spotted this adorable vintage dinette set at a yard sale! ( seen from the highway through trees in a neighborhood behind some bushes!). I instantly found my way to the yard sale and snatched them up for a tidy $35! I was thrilled as I was looking for a set just like this actually! And $35 is my kind of price! I'm thinking of painting the little armrest wiggles a color, or maybe even striped! </font></div><div></div></div></font><div><div><br /> </div></div></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiepXVJvkE9tVeoJUQIhvvWZIRJlxXC0-sNDLUWlgCkdjD7HMB1Pqd0049PeqcJ4aksUrPbdvNHXNpoHa6l6vcC79RrgUorQ4_0VtbJHsVS7zsiiKzaor2anzSdN5G-5fP53Qldy6g7_vPg/s1600/patioset1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 400px; height: 300px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5666738703054958114" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiepXVJvkE9tVeoJUQIhvvWZIRJlxXC0-sNDLUWlgCkdjD7HMB1Pqd0049PeqcJ4aksUrPbdvNHXNpoHa6l6vcC79RrgUorQ4_0VtbJHsVS7zsiiKzaor2anzSdN5G-5fP53Qldy6g7_vPg/s400/patioset1.jpg" /></a><br /><div><font face="arial"><br /></font></div></div>Decades a Go-Gohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14722809448894385095noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3975591316674293687.post-63929274798154719122010-12-10T20:27:00.000-08:002010-12-10T21:40:13.510-08:00I'm free!!! And thinking of living in a vintage trailer...<div>First off, lemme just say,<div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I'm FREEE!!! </div><div><br /></div><div>Well, for the most part at least. Studio is over! And winter break has basically started. I have one final exam still in a week, but I have plenty of time to just relax and study with classes being over...</div><div><br /></div><div>So what's been on my mind lately? Well, vintage trailers....specifically, BIG vintage trailers! More like mobile homes really....</div><div><br /></div><div>I'll be graduating college in a year and a half, and I love the idea of starting out after college in a vintage trailer! I could find one with outrageous 50's styling, fix it up, and make it my own little vintage oasis...</div></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrykNiqisScJ8CTQuDznADRe43W8TUTpdKITZt1AT2nn1_f5YKizEi9B7A1Au_GVXdKQAyzTvDWN6w9tMR299aIINmtwQbn46hq2F53nhhpJevMACd5QSqwHBgNvX9AMNlpbyATMix7Ayp/s1600/richardson2a.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrykNiqisScJ8CTQuDznADRe43W8TUTpdKITZt1AT2nn1_f5YKizEi9B7A1Au_GVXdKQAyzTvDWN6w9tMR299aIINmtwQbn46hq2F53nhhpJevMACd5QSqwHBgNvX9AMNlpbyATMix7Ayp/s400/richardson2a.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5549284273110503218" /></a><br /><div><div>I am quite enamored with this 1959 Richardson that's been rotting away in a storage yard nearby my house here in MD... She may not look like much, but I just LOVE that angled end styling... She is very very rough, but in a way that might be better, since I could be free-er to stray away from the original-ness without feeling bad. Not to say I would ever make it modern, but as a designer and architecture student I would love the opportunity to redoe the inside with vintage things to create an entirely new (but vintage) atmosphere. It currently has really awful dark, fake wood paneling that I know is vintage, but I just can't stand... I could probably get that Richardson for free (or close to it) too... I hate to admit I'm not the biggest fan of her booty though. She basically just ends flat. It almost looks unfinished, or like someone modified it to just be a flat wall. I very much prefer the wild angles like the front end has. Because this trailer is so rough, I wonder if I could even modify the rear end design, maybe put in sort of balcony thing or add tapers or something... but make it look original. It would definitely require skill in metalwork to do it right, but that's something I'm very interested in and do want to learn. (I'll hopefully be taking some classes on at least welding soon). Oh, and while there's no pictures, in what's left of the living room is a very cool angled room divider...</div><div><br /></div></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZswrPUK7Tb9M-tZRlosrr0EX7ujsisM1Xbna76t7oGbUFFGet943BQFMPH5jTVgnUg1P5ykHm0qMRGFvNsAmwpnLeUkldhUo4S3ZJSiVwCqjGg_85dDpGfYrBdOw2Q21g58pwSbEEEMys/s1600/richardson1a.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZswrPUK7Tb9M-tZRlosrr0EX7ujsisM1Xbna76t7oGbUFFGet943BQFMPH5jTVgnUg1P5ykHm0qMRGFvNsAmwpnLeUkldhUo4S3ZJSiVwCqjGg_85dDpGfYrBdOw2Q21g58pwSbEEEMys/s400/richardson1a.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5549284272274253250" /></a><br /></div><div><div>I actually like the idea of living in some bizarre little collective grouping of vintage things. Like instead of one house per say, lots of little vintage rescued buildings and trailers...altogether in some little compound....like abandoned diners, little cottages, old train cars, vintage trailers, and other vintage oddities, some of which were never intended to be houses... I just think it would be such a fun and varied living experience. And I have seen all sorts of examples like the ones I mentioned listed for sale, often relatively cheap if you have a place for them.</div><div><br /></div><div>But yea, here are some pictures I've been oogling over for inspiration. What I usually do is find certain images for inspiration when thinking of something like this. In a lot of cases, it's a singular thing or idea in an image I'm in love or am fascinated with. So I'm really trying to sell the stuff I don't absolutely love...maybe I can make a compilation of everything to sell, put it in a flickr album, and put a link to the side here somewhere... What happens is I'll get something, and then a bit later find something even better to replace it. (like the TV's above). And I should sell it immediately but it just takes so much time... but I really do need to get on that...</span></div></div></div></div></div>Decades a Go-Gohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14722809448894385095noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3975591316674293687.post-58872014033319051042010-11-26T15:59:00.000-08:002010-11-26T16:09:06.181-08:00And the vintage giveaway winner is...<div><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWV2jR98KEMb_5ekI18Nz-pVBuNXANg4CJOYlVxjWmSuez1_8kwDxqRG4gxRIOSc0QaKaNSViDWvGwqfHsn-3t5BIFo1pRT8SXZiLY4jvyAC5TOSnwzFaP4Pfjj1l9w5ykN2-4oJPIRLmS/s1600/win1.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWV2jR98KEMb_5ekI18Nz-pVBuNXANg4CJOYlVxjWmSuez1_8kwDxqRG4gxRIOSc0QaKaNSViDWvGwqfHsn-3t5BIFo1pRT8SXZiLY4jvyAC5TOSnwzFaP4Pfjj1l9w5ykN2-4oJPIRLmS/s400/win1.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5544013502839803682" /></a><div>Alrighty! Yes, yes, I know I haven't been a good blogger recently, but I just started my junior year in architecture at UMD this fall (first year of studio)....and it's been beyond crazy... Oh, the life of an architecture student...more like architorture sometimes!<div><br /></div><div>But I do like it, and do LOVE design...so I just have to sacrifice a few small things....like my social life...and sleep...and sanity (at times). But enough about me, let's just see how often I can keep these posts up....and I feel a giveaway coming up to make up for it...just need to find some awesome mailable vintage stuff!</div><div><br /></div><div>But anyways, I got this awesome dinette set over the summer:</div><div><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRZMDXIkK7BwVlIC4CltLzjRyTmT0A32_-T2f5ldjh_os2WKUPN71ZKvVlsZZpNnGvvmlso8o_JuFGgxfoKB6qo6pRCBLDiYhrnre5KEhWLImKoaBfbZyrkNfkoaF6_FTqUofPs_H9LbGE/s1600/table1.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 225px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRZMDXIkK7BwVlIC4CltLzjRyTmT0A32_-T2f5ldjh_os2WKUPN71ZKvVlsZZpNnGvvmlso8o_JuFGgxfoKB6qo6pRCBLDiYhrnre5KEhWLImKoaBfbZyrkNfkoaF6_FTqUofPs_H9LbGE/s400/table1.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542074575811361282" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>It's great, and has fantastic legs, but several seats were ripped up.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaV7QIL5-3WYuy7V9KNvcLYACUiFzfSKtaQGLB8fncJndUJ-AgaUfeuzoZsuMKcij74Vn63iCYgNeecoEtEFlQLoUEnEQoYrFIpdmSMKsdZ2eXmCoO9445dUAeQlTZShQ9121P3VWGJwcW/s1600/upho1.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaV7QIL5-3WYuy7V9KNvcLYACUiFzfSKtaQGLB8fncJndUJ-AgaUfeuzoZsuMKcij74Vn63iCYgNeecoEtEFlQLoUEnEQoYrFIpdmSMKsdZ2eXmCoO9445dUAeQlTZShQ9121P3VWGJwcW/s400/upho1.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542078540160860306" /></a><br /><br />I'm very much a fan of keeping things original, but these were fairly big rips... The backs however, were good and intact for the most part, so I was just unsure of what to do...</div><div><br /></div><div>SO, I decided I would simply recover the 2 mostly ripped seats with another material that would work with the vintageness... I didn't rip off the existing vinyl, but just left it there and didn't disturb it, in case someone in the future does want to try to save it somehow (and only 2 or 3 seats were<i> this</i> bad). </div><div><br /></div><div>First matter of business was unscrewing the seat...easier said that done!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdGR8T7VRGFoy4lRxg8gFxPE2leAKds8_Jmf78VWnWW-zjcWM8EerHoespkn27qiB39vbW43FKPFNQKHmTUWliadfM2fXIp_JzN6ZnJ0qlORHt8DdT3bc6KCgdpMCLlUAWJaxvsw0WqKVs/s1600/upho3.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdGR8T7VRGFoy4lRxg8gFxPE2leAKds8_Jmf78VWnWW-zjcWM8EerHoespkn27qiB39vbW43FKPFNQKHmTUWliadfM2fXIp_JzN6ZnJ0qlORHt8DdT3bc6KCgdpMCLlUAWJaxvsw0WqKVs/s400/upho3.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542078532311207538" /></a><br />Some of the screws were SO rusted and stuck in there after 50 years, and you do NOT want to strip one of those! I'm not the biggest car show guy, cause let's be honest, it gets a little tiring just sitting and staring at a bunch of cars on a big field in the sun. The cars can be gorgeous, but I either end up leaving early, or roasting in the sun! </span><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvJfc-37Atn6A4AOivceAVi1EAWTK7kbUA8zNFMTmA2nUNSZTY6Z8SxIY36KV7Tq1sqz0nbSwTmAuZ6HKmrJYnJJgnsutuJxUgSOcVLEwPxAGUh5UYVIWCgtMj0_je9Me9E7zV9rk0088n/s1600/gouldlawn.jpeg"><span style="font-family:arial;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5499798355930424114" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvJfc-37Atn6A4AOivceAVi1EAWTK7kbUA8zNFMTmA2nUNSZTY6Z8SxIY36KV7Tq1sqz0nbSwTmAuZ6HKmrJYnJJgnsutuJxUgSOcVLEwPxAGUh5UYVIWCgtMj0_je9Me9E7zV9rk0088n/s400/gouldlawn.jpeg" /></span></a><span style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span><span style="font-family:arial;">The Gould Meet however, is none of those things! It's a ton of fun, and if you haven't been before, I strongly recommend that you do! While the cars are outrageous and gorgeous and hilarious, it's really the people that makes the meet one-of-a-kind. For most of the weekend, we invade Charle Gould's neighborhood and just sit back and talk cars, meet awesome people, give and take rides, and just have a lot of fun in general. </span><br /><br /><div align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjWcbX-8vpz-jANhXdGa9U4saNtqGcH17QMMnq8OhO1P-EFDm1uxp-xMpc5S_mufAgQrWb2I3y56bKkkiemXChU9NWg8Vahj5bjrr-YYTC835jG3PXd0IBETWndui-GREpf0ZUVMON3dxX/s1600/15.jpeg"><span style="font-family:arial;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5499798175150409186" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjWcbX-8vpz-jANhXdGa9U4saNtqGcH17QMMnq8OhO1P-EFDm1uxp-xMpc5S_mufAgQrWb2I3y56bKkkiemXChU9NWg8Vahj5bjrr-YYTC835jG3PXd0IBETWndui-GREpf0ZUVMON3dxX/s400/15.jpeg" /></span></a><span style="font-family:arial;"><br />Even a little rain on Saturday couldn't keep us down for long! </span></div><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKBj8xVO4J9aALDEhFzJ75VM1pPmnJXE-9Rhrf-AJgi1bCFXPmP_ZnM10CLr0cf0CbBay8u3aFkeOSLigmT5IUR9dXQkHfwDrYwhb27-d6vMxFRRrZSvDW68xBvgq9uDJH5IkBi_lmfHwY/s1600/raining.jpeg"><span style="font-family:arial;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 312px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5499798161645553570" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKBj8xVO4J9aALDEhFzJ75VM1pPmnJXE-9Rhrf-AJgi1bCFXPmP_ZnM10CLr0cf0CbBay8u3aFkeOSLigmT5IUR9dXQkHfwDrYwhb27-d6vMxFRRrZSvDW68xBvgq9uDJH5IkBi_lmfHwY/s400/raining.jpeg" /></span></a><span style="font-family:arial;"><br /></span><span style="font-family:arial;">There's lots of driving and caravaning microcars around Newton, and even on a beautiful 100 mile trip around the country! I'm not sure if product shout-outs is anti-blog etiquette, but this has to be an exception! If you've never tried it before you <em>must</em>! I get a lot of vintage stuff, often plastic, which has stains and deep grime/wear that never seems to come out! Someone recommend the magic erasers to me, and I fell in love! You just sit there scrubbin', and it's like magic! I mean you <em>do</em> have to scrub, but almost anything will come out! Marker, grime, build up...the list goes on!<br /><br />I will go on to say my experience has been mostly on plastics and some furniture, but it's worked good on everything so far! I will say do <strong><em>not</em> </strong>use it on any metal painted surface, or -especially-easy-to-forget- on <strong>decals</strong> that may be on vintage plastic things. Mr. Clean <em>will</em> clean...right through them! As I discovered in a fluster early on while scrubbing a decal on the front of a vintage-ish (thankfully not precious) blender.<br /><br />My TV recently had some alone time with Mr. Clean, and the results were awesome! Note the "before" was AFTER going over the entire TV with a wet rag. The after is only that one part, but just look at the difference! Like a breath of fresh air...<br /><br /></span><span style="font-family:arial;"></span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsJaGsrxjphn_jeaaqVwmCvYkJiEbQhwGYAG5PPKrF9yM5vs-FA9khF-aIkg4HEtn1ImpoHQkgpFHTzpeyIlmMTgVXj4jmf3sa7hc-lCZt_8nVNgVBuRelbiX62d_AhBknneFxmUNVS-jI/s1600/cv1.jpg"><span style="font-family:arial;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488446623981933458" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsJaGsrxjphn_jeaaqVwmCvYkJiEbQhwGYAG5PPKrF9yM5vs-FA9khF-aIkg4HEtn1ImpoHQkgpFHTzpeyIlmMTgVXj4jmf3sa7hc-lCZt_8nVNgVBuRelbiX62d_AhBknneFxmUNVS-jI/s400/cv1.jpg" /></span></a><span style="font-family:arial;"> </span><br /><div align="left"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY7KDgxL4GAHa52mn1EhhaEmZmzu9Bp6tb2Ru8XnHMwaV5N3iBxHGCnyjntkep8kHfnVLOQ44zDvEkboT4s4Yl2IfpUEB1uXkmJilxXWsg2ib5duIB843z2Af4jGH8QMd9BbeKYlFaGXCf/s1600/cv2.jpg"><span style="font-family:arial;"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488446617486371074" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY7KDgxL4GAHa52mn1EhhaEmZmzu9Bp6tb2Ru8XnHMwaV5N3iBxHGCnyjntkep8kHfnVLOQ44zDvEkboT4s4Yl2IfpUEB1uXkmJilxXWsg2ib5duIB843z2Af4jGH8QMd9BbeKYlFaGXCf/s400/cv2.jpg" /></span></a><span style="font-family:arial;"><br />So yea, I'm doin' a bit of product placement, but I promise it's worth it!
