Hi! This is my first post on my first blog, but hopefully I'll get the hang of this.. I thought I’d share a little about me to start off. My name is Nick, and I’m a 19 year old architecture student at the University of MD. I hope to eventually get involved with historic preservation. Saying I love vintage things is an understatement- it’s my way of life! It’s been that way for as long as I can remember, though it really kicked into a higher gear the last couple of years! I don’t know what it is about vintage things…they almost have a certain energy to them…like a window to the past through the memories and history captured within them! And the design...UGH. You’ll find I’m very much into original things versus “fully restored” things. I don’t mind restoration if something’s in poor condition, but if it's something special in good original condition, and has made it this far, my motto is to love it like it is!
I do have a lot of stuff, but most of it is extremely cheap or free. There are a couple of exceptions, but they have to be pretty phenomenal! While this certainly reflects the fact that I just don’t have a lot of money, another part of it is simply the fun of the hunt, and the idea of saving these things from the dump, that can look perfectly fabulous cleaned up in the right environment! I love how taste evolves, and one of the best aspects of collecting and living with vintage things for me has been seeing how my taste has turned into what it is now. Compared to what I was getting even 5 years ago to now is a huge (and much better) difference. Most of my stuff ranges from the 40’s- early 60’s, but I don’t draw a strict line anywhere. I love mixing and matching different styles and pieces. When interior design get too predictable, I just don't find it as engaging. I love atomic age stuff, and am a huge fan of adding a healthy dose of kitsch in there! I don’t really like completely serious interior design… I'm much more a fan of things that are fun, happy, and unexpected, with a touch of quirkiness. I dream of the day when I buy my first place, but until then I certainly have enough furniture for it!
Anyways, I could go on, but I figure what better way to show you about me than through some blog posts :).

Yea I haven't really checked out Etsy that much but I've heard great things... I think I'll go do that cause I feel like I'll love it!

ReplyDeleteI don't think I have ever read a more skillfully worded and utterly spot-on description of what it feels like to be a lover of vintage. I feel like we bloggers are always doing a show and tell because as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Sometimes you just need to see it to "get it" when it comes to some one's passion for their particular interest or hobby (or obsession in our cases) for the things they love. You my friend have summed it up in one paragraph! I am new to your blog and wanted to start from the start. I can now tell for certain it will be a fantastic voyage!
